Bol What fate does destiny have in store for the lives of two families, one German (the Schuour's) and the other Jewish (the Bergmans), as life takes each of them on a long, fictional journey through their family histories from the 1700s to the present? While this story is fictional, it is also factual, as it relies on actual events that occurred in Europe at the time and recounts the lives of European Jews as they were expelled from one country to the next until they finally settled in Germany prior to World War I. Thinking they had at long last found a country that would accept and tolerate the Jewish people who had immigrated there only to later realize, to their horror, the hatred, Anti-Semitism, which for millions led to complete annihilation during the 1930s and 1940s, ending in World War II's Holocaust and death camps. My story recounts the history of the Schuour family and their aristocratic lives as affluent members of Prussian and then German society, who believed there was indeed a place in Germany for the Jews and that their contribution to a free and prosperous country was not only possible but also should be welcomed.
