The Bell: a Kids' Guide to Becoming Navy Seal

There's a brass bell on a post at the edge of the training grounds in Coronado, California. Ring it three times and you're done. Nobody stops you, the rope is never put away, and there's a hot shower waiting on the other side of it. Roughly three out of four people who start that training walk over and use it.This is a book about them.It explains what the training actually involves - the swimming, the cold, the boat crews, and the written exams that remove people months after they survived the week everyone has heard of. It also covers the parts that rarely get explained to anyone young: how military pay is worked out and what it comes to, what a twenty-year pension does to a person's thinking at year fourteen, what a decade of deployments costs a family, and what the work does to a body over fifteen years.Written for readers 9 to 14 who want to know what this career is really like, including the parts that would make them choose something else.
