Terrorism and Economic Development in North East Nigeria

This book examined how terrorism in Nigeria's North East has become the most challenging threat to peace, trade, security, political and economic stability in the region leading to socio-economic and developmental instability. The theoretical framework adopted is the conflict theory of Frustration-Aggression which revealed that a cursory look at the North East states in Nigeria portrays that insurgency has truncated the wheel of development. It further predicts that Economic Development (ED) will be hindered in an environment of insecurity as currently witnessed through Boko Haram Terrorism (BHT) activities in NE Nigeria, with wide possible range of policy responses for mitigation. The book recommended that Government should match words with action in dealing with the security challenges in Nigeria. The study concludes that this should include equipping the military, re-organizing the police force, settlement of political, economic and religious disputes without favoritism as this will help improve the economic growth and development of the region.
