In a Welsh village churchyard, they meet a strange man-a man who carries a harp, a longbow, and a sword. His name is Taliesin, and he is searching for the gravestone of his lost love, the woman he left behind nine centuries before. Ariel, a remarkably bright and perceptive six-year-old, bears an unusual scar-one that marks her as the target of the Sons of the Cauldron, a pagan cult that worships Cerridwen.
