I was sitting outside a small shrine near Tarapith, past midnight, when an old Baul singer told me something I did not ask for. Ask lying down, he said. Ask the one who already lives behind your eyes. It took years before I understood what he meant, and longer still before I found the same claim made twice, in two completely different traditions, on opposite ends of the country. This book gives you both. The first is Swapneshwari as the old Sanskrit compendia preserve her, a mantra of thirteen syllables, a fixed nyasa, a dhyana held before sleep, given here in full with every syllable explained. The second is Akashi Swapneshwari as a living Shabar current still carries her, a root taken with proper invitation, a yantra drawn fresh, a twenty one day working passed down mouth to ear rather than fixed in manuscript. Both traditions make the same claim. Ask her a question before sleep, and she answers by appearing, directly, in a form you will remember clearly on waking. This is not a dream dictionary and not a lucid dreaming manual. It is a petition and response practice, given whole, with the historical grounding and practical discernment a serious sadhaka needs before taking it up. Two roads. One threshold. Walk either one with the patience it asks of you.
