With her unusual appearance and shy nature, Hannah Ruland leads a content, sheltered life. She lives in the heart of the Fen countryside under the protective eye of Ella, her mother, and elder brother. But Ella faces her own demons and is becoming increasingly secretive; disappearing for hours and neglecting her beloved garden. So Hannah turns to a young stranger, Toby, for company. Together, they befriend the crop circle followers encamped by a local wheatfield where mysterious patterns have appeared. Then Hannah's middle brother returns home unexpectedly, and soon Kirsten, his old girlfriend, arrives on the scene.
