Such Great Heights

Such Great Heights brings together 75 of David Allen's best columns from the pages of the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin from 2011 to 2015. Go exploring with the Inland Empire's best-known chronicler as he gets the scoop on local mainstay Vince's Spaghetti and introduces you to the Scripps College student who became Twin Peaks' Log Lady.Consult a map as you marvel at how the surf song "Wipe Out" originated in Cucamonga and Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention was born in Pomona. Portraits of a blues musician, a city executive, a former showgirl and a cop still working in his 70s bring you so close, you won't need binoculars. In more personal exploits, David Allen belatedly acquires his first cell phone, serves as principal for a day at a high school and soars overhead in a hot air balloon, anxiously. For readers of Such Great Heights, the horizons are unlimited, and so are the pleasures.
