In 2025, the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUTB) celebrated its 20th anniversary. During this time, it has developed from a small project to one of the largest exchanges in Eastern Europe. The figures speak for themselves: as of January 1, 2026, 9031 foreign companies from 82 countries were represented on the BUTB. Last year alone, 1,086 foreign companies from 34 countries, including 100 from China, 75 from Uzbekistan, 55 from Kazakhstan, and 52 from Azerbaijan, were accredited to participate in the Belarusian exchange. In addition, in 2025, the geography of BUTB clients has become wider by four countries: residents of Indonesia, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Myanmar and Senegal came to the exchange for the first time to buy agricultural and forestry products. And in the first month of 2026, 259 trading sessions were held on this electronic platform, the total amount of transactions exceeded one billion Belarusian rubles, which is two percent more than in January 2025. In total, as of January 31 of this year, more than 38 thousand companies have already been accredited on BUTB. How will this interesting project develop further? This is the subject of this study.
