Strangers Within the Dark

I grew up on the west side of Detroit on a street called Burlingame; this provided me with a curbside view of those historic and troublesome events that occurred in my neighborhood. Violence, pain, and upheaval were just a part of my everyday life. Good days were interspersed with bad, filled with laughter, adventures, life lessons, and tears. From elementary to high school, I navigated through a land constantly in a state of war. During my freshman year at college, I experienced for the first time inner peace when I accepted Christ in a small campus apartment. Being young and adapting to this new lifestyle proved to be challenging at times, especially when confronted with the pressures from my peers and family. I endured many bouts of backsliding and redemption, until finally I asked God one night this most sincere question, "Lord, knowing what I know, why can't I get it right?" This is a story about the life of a child growing up in Metro Detroit and the man who came back.
