It seems to be well understood today that the Chinese way of thinking is radically different to Western philosophy. It is even suggested that the Western way of thinking should use this difference to question the evidence of its principles and learn how to negotiate reality in a different way. For this we generally refer to Taoism (very critical concerning conventions) rather than Confucianism (always suspect of moralism), despite the primordial importance of Confucius in the eyes of Chinese thinkers themselves. The aim of this essay is to establish ties between the tradition of thought stemming from Confucius and western philosophy of Greek origin, which is primarily the philosophy of Socrates.
