It wasn’t that he wanted to live forever but to live like there was no tomorrow. He was born in the late 1800’s in Jamaica, grew up in the states, sailing into the Gatsby era , and sold yachts to the rich and famous in New York City and the Chesapeake Bay. He said, “The sea is in my blood, as it must have been in the blood of my ancestors, who sailed from England to the West Indies in 1795.The lure of the sea is like that of a moth to the flame, an irresistible craving to be near to it, on it or be in it. To be on a ship on the sea is a supreme satisfaction”. What was it like to be in on the very start of recreational sailing and its beginnings, and how did it all happen.
