The purpose of this paper is to show and explain how Singapore has become such an economic and financial powerhouse, as well as a model of success for other countries. Although Singapore is a very small country covering just 700 km², it has become one of the most important commercial ports. This remarkable success is due to the hard work of the British, who helped the island prosper for over a century, and later to Lee Kuan Yew, leader of the PAP for 31 years. The island has also achieved great success in education, boasting major universities-both national and international. In addition to being well-educated, the population is disciplined and abides by the rules established by the party. The PAP has ruled the country in an authoritarian manner since 1959, even though Singapore remains a democracy. Today, Singapore is a nation rich in capital and talent-all of which is controlled by the PAP.
