SHANDONG COASTAL HUMAN SETTLEMENTS: BUILT ENVIRONMENT AND SPATIAL QUALITY

Shandong has prospered by the sea and seeks greater strength through maritime development. Its long coastline, diverse natural ecosystems, and distinctive port-city spaces together shape the unique human settlements of the province's coastal region. As new urbanization advances, the development focus of coastal areas is shifting rapidly from outward expansion toward quality enhancement, functional improvement, and more intensive, inward-looking development. The Blue Book on Coastal Human Settlements in Shandong Province: Coastal Built Environment and Spatial Quality is grounded in the realities of Shandong's coastal cities. It conducts a systematic study of key issues including coastal spatial patterns, the quality of public space, port-city relationships, ecological resilience, and urban regeneration, and proposes targeted actions. The volume provides both a phased review of the development of Shandong's coastal built environment and a professional reference for planning and construction, urban regeneration, and refined urban governance.
