Ten-year-old Seymore Owens begins his summer between fifth and sixth grade with one goal: Blood Mountain. His dad climbed to the top of it when he was Seymore's age, but now, his parents don't think he's ready to take on the trek alone, and his twin older brothers are no help. So Seymore comes up with a summer "bucket list" of challenges to prove to his parents that he IS ready to make the journey, and with the help of his best friend, Emily, and his new furry friend, Captain, he hopes to make it to the top of Blood Mountain and have the best summer ever.
