Bol According to William K. Everson, it's 1927's The Wizard, a wild-and-woolly "Old Dark House" horror whodunit. In the Webster family's storm-lashed home, partygoers are watching Anne Webster blow over the 20 candles on her birthday cake ... and then a grotesque figure, with ghastly face and taloned hands, enters through the chimney flue. After wiseguy reporter Stanley Gordon arrives on the chaotic scene, the action moves to a neighboring manor, a house of horrors ruled by hate-maddened scientist Dr. Coriolis. The instrument of his revenge: Tongo, a gorilla with a human head! "Experience" this gonzo scare-comedy the only way you now can, second-hand, via Scripts from the Crypt's centenary celebration of The Wizard. It serves up a Wizard production history, the 82-page script, career articles on its stars and more.
