Saccharine: a Hansel & Gretel tale

In the frostbitten woods of famine-ravaged 1316, two siblings are led away from their home under the guise of gathering firewood-and left behind in silence. What follows is a descent not only into forest, but into magic, grief, and the aching responsibility of survival.Hansel and Gretel stumble upon a sugar-wrought house, tended by a white witch named Rosina whose kindness conceals a past stitched with thorns. Within those candied walls, the children are offered more than shelter: they are offered power. Not the sparkling kind of fairy tales, but a living force drawn from intention, emotion, and restraint. As the seasons shift, so too do the children. Under Rosina's stern tutelage, they learn elemental and psychological magic, bond with animal familiars, and face trials that test more than their strength: their memories, their loyalties, and their legacy. But the woods remember. And beyond them, something stirs: a dream-hungry monster with copper scales and no name for mercy. To survive it, Hansel and Gretel must become more than lost children. They must become keepers of balance. Of secrets. Of each other.Saccharine: a Hansel & Gretel tale is a dark fantasy of solemnity and firelight-where magic is earned, where monsters wear many skins, and where the fiercest love is forged in grief. Rich with folkloric horror and lyrical gravity, this retelling dares to ask: what happens to the children after the breadcrumbs fail?
