Aristotle, Barrault, Brecht, Chambers, Laban, Marowitz, Stanislavski…The Uses of Drama (first published in 1972) contains John Hodgson’s personal selection of writings on the theatre, ranging in time from Aristotle to Brook and covering both critical and technical approaches to the drama. Included are aspects such as drama as therapy, drama in education and the search for a new drama, reflecting Hodgson’s own interest in the most advanced and imaginative work being done in the theatre. The linking commentary makes this not only an essential source book of ideas about the drama but also a stimulating argument in its own right.
