Route Refused: A Progression Fantasy Mystery

She unlocks Critical Thinking. It gives her no answers. Every better question costs focus she needs to stay alive.Tavi Reed is three bonuses from buying one day that belongs only to her - until Bellwether's flawless Ledger sends six driverless carts toward a bridge that has been in the river since yesterday afternoon. Stopping them costs her half a level, her forty-seven-delivery streak, and the passage she spent a year saving for.It also opens a forgotten twelve-rank path. Each advance changes what she can test. Each use takes focus she needs for carrying. When impossible routes begin multiplying before Founding Day, Tavi follows the records with a street-worn route keeper, a compliance officer, a calibration clerk, and a roof runner who refuses to be converted. Their clues do not point to a broken machine or an obvious saboteur. They point to a lawful instruction copied and renewed until the people who made it work disappeared from the record. To challenge it, Tavi must prove how a good decision became a dangerous rule - without shutting down a city that still needs its Ledger, accusing the wrong person, or spending her coworkers' courage for them.Route Refused is a stats-light progression fantasy mystery about costly competence, working people, and the difference between an authorized answer and a right one. Expect dry humour, fair clues, noncombat advancement, and a complete first-volume arc.
