Robben Ford is een Amerikaanse rock-blues en jazzgitarist en voormalig lid van de fusion-pioniers Yellojackets en heeft gewerkt met Miles Davis, Joni Mitchell, George Harrison en vele anderen. In 2018 bracht Ford zijn meest recente studioalbum Purple House uit. Bill Evans is een Amerikaanse saxofonist, niet te verwarren met de legendarische pianist met dezelfde naam, die is te horen op diverse albums van Miles Davis (waaronder We Want Miles, Star People en Decoy) en heeft opgenomen en getourd met Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin, Willie Nelson, Mick Jagger, Ian Anderson, Randy Brecker, Steve Lukather en The Allman Brothers Band. Ford en Evans hebben de afgelopen jaren meerdere malen samen opgetreden en het was tijdens de promotie van Purple House dat Ford enthousiast vertelde over zijn komende Japanse tournee met Evans. Een paar weken later zaten ze in de studio met een eersteklas ritmesectie, drummer Keith Carlock (Steely Dan) en bassist James Genus (Branford Marsalis, Chick Corea). Het resultaat is The Sun Room.Bill Evans: ‘Rarely, but every now and then, likeminded musicians get together to create something that transcends musical boundaries yet can reach a wider audience. To me, the music we created on The Sun Room is timeless. I love blues, jazz, soul, funk and this CD has all of it, performed at the highest level. I couldn't be happier with this recording.
