River of Possibility

River of Possibility is a narrative historical biography of André Robidou dit L'Espagnol and Jeanne Denot, the founders of the Robidou family in North America. Set along the Fleuve Saint-Laurent during the formative years of Nouvelle-France in the mid and late seventeenth century, the book traces their lives through the hardships, uncertainty, and opportunities of the colonial frontier.Drawing upon historical records, regional history, and carefully reconstructed settings, River of Possibility explores the realities of immigration, settlement, survival, and the emergence of French Canadian identity in early North America. The work seeks to place the reader within the physical and cultural world of the first French settlers who helped shape the communities of the St. Lawrence valley.The book also includes selected illustrations that complement the narrative and help bring the landscape and period to life.
