River City

River City is the incredible journal of Jim Spiri's -- a small town newspaper reporter -- journey in 2010 into war-time Afghanistan for a dual embed with the United States Army and then the United States Marine Corps. Not only does Spiri seek to bring the stories of active service men and women in Afghanistan to the readers of the Union County Leader newspaper, but he specifically seeks to find and reconnect with a small handful of young men with whom he has shared a special friendship from past journeys in war-time Iraq. This is a deeply personal quest as much as it is a faithful dedication to telling the story of this historical time that impacted the world.River City follows Spiri's daily struggles, interactions and interviews, and his time on foot patrols outside the wire in the most remote and violent corners of the Afghanistan conflict at its height. Spiri's embeds with the United States Armed Forces follows in the footsteps of great war journalism to find and report the personal stories of the men and women who sacrificed for their country.
