Generally, each line contains one historical allusion, though some lines contain two. With the exception of four lines that do not contain allusions, the book encompasses over a thousand figures and stories. These allusions span from high antiquity to the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, covering an exceptionally broad temporal range and drawing from an extensive variety of sources, distinguished by their vividness and strong representativeness. Their origins extend across the four traditional categories of Chinese texts-the Classics, Histories, Masters, and Collections-and the figures involved range from emperors, kings, generals, and ministers to scholars, farmers, artisans, and merchants, encompassing all social strata. The stories are primarily selected from ancient philosophical works and official histories, but also draw from unofficial histories, novels, anecdotes, myths, and folklore from various dynasties. The allusions include famous figures, historical events, myths, legends, and fables from every period of ancient Chinese history. They cover an extensive range of topics-politics, military affairs, culture, diplomacy, literature, art, Confucian scholarship, alchemy, customs, ethics, moral conduct, the supernatural, and superstition. Truly, it can be regarded as an encyclopedia of figures and stories from ancient China.¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿1¿¿¿¿1062¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿4¿¿¿¿¿1000¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿
