This book is a translation of al-Madasat al-Quraniyya, the work of an original and comprehensive thinker, Muhammad Bakr al-Sadr, who lived through the most important events in the twentieth-century Middle East. In his critique of contemporary Western and Islamic societies, he uses philosophical views and theories such as Marxism, capitalism, and liberalism, as well as Islamic principles and norms. After discussing different ways to interpret the Quran, al-Sadr discusses whether there are laws of history and how these are displayed in the Holy Book. The chapters, which are written as lessons, provide guidance on how to create and live in a just society.
