This text is the result of a research project called "Proposal for the Strengthening of Scientific Competencies in Fifth Grade Primary School Students in the City of Bucaramanga, Colombia", which provides in-depth evidence of the level of development of scientific competencies (SC) in the official educational institutions of the municipality of Bucaramanga-Santander. This takes into account the results of the SABER 5° tests of the educational institutions of the municipality and, from them, the most important factors to take into account for the strengthening of the SC are condensed, which show the need to investigate the processes carried out by the teachers who guide these grades, strengthening the scientific competencies and the components that are evaluated in this test, as well as studying the international tests applied, in relation to this type of competencies and how the country is in relation to the academic community.the findings will be reflected in a proposal by the doctoral student to develop teaching-learning processes of science in order to obtain better results in the application of tests.
