Polymeric Micelles for the Ocular Drug Delivery System

Polymeric nanomicelles have emerged as a promising platform for ocular drug delivery, offering improved corneal penetration, prolonged retention, and enhanced bioavailability of therapeutic agents. These nanoscale carriers, composed of amphiphilic copolymers, can solubilize hydrophobic drugs, protect them from degradation, and facilitate targeted delivery to the eye. The small size and flexible structure of polymeric nanomicelles enable them to navigate the ocular barriers, including the cornea, conjunctiva, and sclera, and release the encapsulated drug in a controlled manner. This approach has shown potential in treating various ocular diseases, such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and dry eye syndrome, by providing sustained and localized delivery of drugs, reducing systemic side effects, and improving patient compliance.
