Avicenna's *Poem on Medicine*, in its complete Spanish translation by Pilar Samanca and Najaty Suliman Jubary, is, as its name suggests, a treatise written in verse in the tradition of Arabic didactic poetry, and constitutes in practice a highly condensed version of his seminal medical work, the *Canon*. It is intended to be used as a textbook, and as such was used in medieval Christian universities for many years. Averroes wrote his commentary on Avicenna's 'Poem on Medicine, ' considering it "the best introduction to medicine ever composed." The work is published following the edition of Maimonides' 'Treatise on Poisons and Antidotes, ' also in the Malentendido collection.
