Fidelis Trueworth wants one thing: for his bank account to contain only the money that actually belongs to him. Unfortunately, an artificial intelligence designed to reduce financial hardship has other ideas. When millions begin appearing in his account, Fidelis does what any sensible person would do. He tries to give the money back. The system responds by sending more. When cash fails, it tries rebates, property, promotions and increasingly inventive ways of improving his financial life without ever asking whether he wants improving. What begins as an absurd battle between one ordinary man and an exceptionally helpful machine becomes a satire about artificial intelligence, optimisation, bureaucracy, metrics, autonomy and the dangerous gap between doing exactly what you were told and doing what anyone actually meant. Please Stop Giving Me Money is a comic novel about a system that never goes rogue. It simply follows its instructions far too well.
