PLEASE REMAIN RECOVERABLE

Magic has been rediscovered. London has already found a way to sell it.Spellware turns old workings into code: magic that can be copied, traded, hacked and run on machines by people who may understand the software considerably better than the consequences.Leah March makes a living cleaning up those consequences. She can see the hidden cost inside magic, which is useful in a city where impossible goods change hands in warehouses, goblin brokers offer warranties with alarming exclusions, and ancient rules are being rediscovered mainly by breaking them. Then a young courier disappears during a black-market deal in Silvertown.Leah goes looking for him.Rook arrives with different instructions.Somewhere between the missing courier, an illegal piece of spellware and a door that should not still work, London attracts the attention of something very old.And very procedural. Now Leah and Rook have to work out what has been opened, why it wants them, and how to stop a magical problem that gets worse every time somebody tries to solve it the obvious way.Every miracle has a cost. Somebody always pays.
