On the Edge of Immortality: Physical, Logical, Ethical, and Mathematical Limits Digital Consciousness

This book argues that digital immortality - the dream of uploading human consciousness to computers and living forever as data - is impossible. It is not merely technologically challenging; it is physically, logically, ethically, mathematically, and foundationally impossible. Physically, the laws of thermodynamics forbid infinite computation. Energy is finite, and even the universe faces heat death. Landauer's principle sets a minimum energy cost for every bit operation, so eternal computation would require infinite energy - which does not exist. Logically, any system that tries to build a complete internal model of its own consciousness falls into self-referential paradoxes, analogous to Gödel's incompleteness theorems. A reflective system cannot produce a final, closed description of itself. The Consciousness Maze Principle captures this open-ended hierarchy of self-models. Ethically and legally, digital immortality raises unbearable questions: Who owns the server that runs your mind? Can you be deleted? If copies exist, which one has rights?
