Guillaume Apollinaire (1880-1918) is regarded as one of the most important French poets of the 20th century. Born in Rome to an Italian father and a Polish mother, he lived most of his life in Paris, published several acclaimed books of poetry and a surrealist play, "Les Mamelles de Tirésias". In the summer of 1917 he coined the term Surrealism. The new translations of his poems have been made by Matthew Geden, the Irish poet whose three collections of poetry have been published by Bradshaw Books, Dedalus Press and SurVision Books.
