Pierre is in his fifties and a highly prosperous businessman while one of his ex-girlfriends, Françoise, is an unemployed document research specialist, no longer needed by the audiovisual industry, and struggling to get by. At a dinner, one evening, Françoise, direly in need of cash, tries to borrow money from Pierre. Fed up with the constant demands for money from family and friends, Pierre refuses but makes her an offer: he?ll pay her if she accepts to sleep with him again. Insulted and shocked, Françoise nevertheless accepts Pierre's offer the next day, not knowing he was about to apologise. Thus begins an unusual drama where ex-girlfriend plays the role of professional hooker and rich ex-lover is her client. Both make a point of honour of mutually deciding on the rules and strictly respecting the new boundaries of their new unusual relationship, despite their troubled past that creeps up to haunt them. This imaginative twist on ?the second time around? proves that money actually can sometimes buy you love. Charles Nemes is the author of Je hais mon chien (Balland, 2003) and Pourquoi les coiffeurs (Balland, 2004) both critically acclaimed. N?oublie pas mon petit cadeau is his third novel.
