Neuromodulation

The book presents an integrated approach to the neurobiological foundations of neuromodulation, with an emphasis on synaptic plasticity as the basis of learning, memory and functional adaptation of the nervous system. The cellular and neural network mechanisms that regulate cortical excitability and synaptic reorganization are discussed. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) plays a central role and is explored in terms of its neurophysiological principles, stimulation protocols and clinical applications in the modulation of circuits related to mood, cognition, motor control and pain. The book also addresses the interaction between neuromodulation and pharmacotherapy, analyzing how psychotropic drugs can influence the therapeutic effects of EMT. In the context of mental disorders, applications in depression, anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder are discussed, proposing a multimodal therapeutic approach, based on evidence and integrated with cognitive-functional rehabilitation.
