Monsters on Our Side: 2

Hiro is a solidly middle class, mildly privileged, average account. Sure, he joined God's Holy Invasion fleet to take over some unsuspecting planet, but he's not a soldier or anything, he's just an innocent number cruncher who was only trying to follow his boyfriend. However, his dreams of marrying his boyfriend and starting a family are quickly dashed, and he finds himself just trying to ride out this quagmire. Until the war gets to close to him and he is held hostage -- so desperate for someone to save him that he has to start taking matters into his own hands. ----Perfect for readers looking for something a little different in a Hard Sci-fi. War is terrible, but it's also an opportunity for heroes to rise up from the ashes of tragedy and truly change of course of human endeavors. These series is *not* those stories. This series is about the stupid decisions that trickle down to create impossible circumstances where no one, no matter how heroic you are, can navigate without either messing something up or pissing someone off. This series doesn't focus on great generals or world leaders navigating strategic decisions to save the world, this series is about the losers, the marginalized, the incompetent, and the people stuck in middle. It is a ten part series meant to be read in any order. Looking for something with tastes of the cynicism of grim-dark without the crushing pessimism? Something that mixes violent escapism with a touch of humor? Something that might make you look at your friendly neighborhood IT in a different light? Then this is you. There's no heroes, maybe a few villains, but mostly just people trying to live their lives when the world is falling apart all around them.
