Bol Retired professor John L Cochran is the perfect author for Microbial Management. Long before he received his post graduate degrees in administration he had a diverse career in construction (both steel and wood), industrial research, Amy aviation (Viet Nam), law enforcement (both police and correctional), security camera operations (people studies), vocational/technical education, ornamental iron work, general welding, organizational consulting, grant writing. Then as a University professor teaching in multiple social sciences and Research Methods, (beginning statistics and 'logic' instruction for scores of graduate students writing their Master's thesis or Doctoral dissertation). The most fortuitous circumstances during Cochran's diverse professions involved the fact that in the majority of the above mentioned occupations he worked under some of the most inept, incompetent, and futile supervisors one could imagine. All during those days the author realized there was something hideously wrong and missing in how supervisors approached their responsibilities and their dismal attempt to actually lead the work force. Initially studying zoology and organic evolution Cochran was gratified to see how everything in the hard physical sciences blended together and made perfect sense. On the other hand he was dissatisfied and frustrated with the lack of rigidity in the soft sciences. Without algorithms or hard formulas to guide research, the soft sciences seemingly relied solely on little more than mush, one professor or guru citing another, then another....Falling back on his physical science studies Cochran began his own quest for shoring up the soft sciences. For a couple of decades he thought about a blend of hard science realism mixed to and providing rigor to the soft sciences' rhetoric. Thus, the quest for his own UFTOM began. These two volumes are the culmination of that search.
