In A Path Back to Life Dr. Steven Sommer brings together an effective ME/CFS treatment plan he calls Micro Rehab. Underpinning this is growing self-awareness (mindfulness) that can be applied to pacing and individualised Rehab sessions. This plan involves building a solid base by; garnering social support; maximising quality sleep; low GI nutrition; and an emphasis on mind-body strategies that he refers to as the 'Rest/Activity Dance' and 'Defusing the Loop.' Clear instructions allow the spectre of Post Exertional Malaise (PEM) to be avoided utilising an approach he refers to as 'Micro-Rehab.' It turns the frustration that so many with this disease experience as a negative into a guiding light. The exquisite sensitivity that people experience with this illness becomes their greatest ally allowing for safe reconditioning that liberates energy and builds stamina.
