Bol Max Uhlig (* 1937 in Dresden) is one of the outstanding artistic personalities of the present day. For the first time a publication focuses exclusively on the entire oeuvre of the artist and shows a cross - section through 45 years of paint ings and drawings which remain distinctive to this day for their spontaneity, their sparkling colour intensity and their characteristic web of lines and brushstrokes. For me, something becomes interesting when it starts to look alien after long observatio n, (Max Uhlig). Since the late 1960s the artist has adopted this approach to seeing, which has been transferred to the method used in the painting process and in the ensuing picture structures. The lines and dots in his paintings ignore the surface, penet rating more deeply and arousing the impression of disembodied traces of essential appearance. In addition to portraits it is above all landscapes which repeatedly fascinate him anew. The first monograph on Max Uhlig offers a systematic survey of his works, which are preserved in numerous museums and private collections, and presents them in a high - quality series of illustration
