Bol Mauberley is a visual novel chronicling the rise and fall and eventual rise to fame and fortune of one John Mauberley, an unscrupulous New York entrepreneur and shady stockbroker in the years leading up to America's entry into WWI. Told from multiple viewpoints besides his, including his betrayed but loyal wife Natalie; his glamorous mistress, Broadway star Amanda Bridge; his two children, the rebellious Bob and depressed and alcoholic daughter Prudence; and his childhood friend Terry Claymore, whom he defrauds and impoverishes in his endless quest for wealth, fame, and social approval. He is initially successful, but his excesses soon lead to his downfall; however, he is granted a last-minute reprieve when America joins the War against Imperial Germany and its allies, Austria-Hungary and Turkey, by the simple expedient of selling arms to all sides of the conflict. In 1919, he retires rich, respected, and admired, and enters a new career of pontificating on the mores of the strange world of the Jazz Age he helped to create. So all's well that ends well.
