Bol MARTIN ÓG MORRISSEY played against some of the greatest hurlers of all time. Against Christy Ring and many of the marquee forwards from the late 1950s through to the mid-60s, Óg proved his worth in the colours of Mount Sion, Waterford and Munster time and time again. Captain and match-winning scorer in Mount Sion's 1953 Harty Cup victory, Martin Óg was No 6 on the team which claimed the Déise's last All-Ireland senior title in 1959 when they lifted the Liam MacCarthy Cup following a replay victory over rivals Kilkenny. In a team packed with stellar talent, Óg was the granite presence that the greatest summer in Waterford's hurling history was built upon. He proudly won one All-Ireland title, one National League, a treasured Oireachtas title and three Munster Championships – yet he feels he should have won more with his county. With his playing days behind him, Martin Óg became a respected coach and trainer, who served clubs in both Waterford and Kilkenny with drive, tactical knowledge and insight. This is his story.
