Marine energy systems represent a promising source of renewable energy that can contribute to global energy-transition goals by exploiting the abundant kinetic and potential energy available in oceans and coastal environments. This study presents an overview of a marine energy system designed to convert marine resources, including tidal currents, ocean waves, and tidal-range variations, into electrical energy. The proposed system integrates marine energy converters, power electronic interfaces, energy storage, and grid-connected control strategies to provide reliable and sustainable electricity. Particular attention is given to the variability of marine resources and its influence on power generation, system efficiency, reliability, and economic performance. The system can be evaluated using techno-economic and energy-performance indicators, including annual energy production, capacity factor, conversion efficiency, levelized cost of energy (LCOE), net present value (NPV), and payback period.
