De Britse rockband Marillion, opgericht in 1979, is met 18 albums een van de meest commercieel succesvolle neo-progressieve rockbands van de jaren 1980 geworden en is nog steeds een van de meest opvallende namen binnen het genre. Opgenomen in The Racket Club en Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios, en met een speelduur van bijna 80 minuten, bevat "With Friends From The Orchestra" negen klassieke Marillion-tracks opnieuw gearrangeerd en begeleid door het In Praise Of Folly String Quartet met Sam Morris (hoorn) en Emma Halnan (fluit). Marillion explain: “So our brilliant producer and collaborator Michael Hunter wrote some new string arrangements and we took a week out to go to Real World Studios and record with our friends - the wonderful string quartet ‘In Praise of Folly’, the brilliant flautist Emma Halnan and the gifted French Horn-ist, Sam Morris. The result has exceeded our expectations, is indeed a thing of beauty. We hope you enjoy the songs and agree with us that some of them are actually better than the originals(!).
