Manifest Destiny

Ian Bloom wrote Manifest Destiny at age 32, over four days, after his American rebirth via Star Vehicle. Spitfire.A race as ritual. A map as metaphysics. A myth on blacktop.Set across the quantum-bending metropolis of Los Angeles, Manifest Destiny begins as a drag race and ends as a metaphysical coronation. The Driver, The Passenger, The Actor, The Model, and The Dealer blaze through Mulholland, Topanga, Sepulveda, the I-5 Truck Route, Griffith Park, the Zoo, Forest Lawn, and the Chateau Marmont. Each curve is a choice. Each turn is a test. Each freeway is a filmstrip. Shot for shot, it's the American dream in overdrive.Written with Bloom's signature restraint and cosmological precision, Manifest Destiny reads like Drive ghostwritten by Borges - like The Fast and the Furious reimagined by Camus - Bullitt crossed with The Holy Mountain. Racing as rite of passage, cinema as ceremony, freedom as final destination.America - speed, sex, the open road. God rides shotgun.Manifest Destiny.
