X-rated photography, soft porn, hard porn, sex toys?. Today pornography is in style, and those who flaunt it are ?hip?, ?open-minded?. Widespread and easy to access (DVDs, magazines, cable TV, internet), pornography has become just another representation of sex for each person to judge for himself. Some say it is the cause of all contemporary problems, others defend it in the name of freedom and individual free will. Yet this X-rated representation of human sexuality is a restriction. It imposes a limited and debasing definition of sex, reducing its characteristics to a few highly codified behaviours, erasing the free will it pretends to encourage. Michela Marzano has no intention of embarking on an anti-porn crusade. She simply invites us to reconsider the problem at its source: What is pornography's message today? Why is it sexually exciting? Why is violence increasingly associated with porn? Michela Marzano is a philosopher and researcher at the French CNRS. Author of, among others, Penser le corps (PUF, 2002) La pornographe ou l?épuisement du désir (Buchet Chastel, 2003) La fidelité ou l?amour à vif (Buchet Chastel, 2005)
