Arnaldur Indridason chronicles a night from "Reykjavik Nights" for his protagonist Erlendur when he discovers that a homeless man he knows has died and a young woman on her way home has disappeared. With a policeman's unfailing instinct, he discovers a link between the two victims. For the young policeman Erlendur, Reykjavik nights weren't pleasant like Vienna nights - he spent his night shifts tracking criminals. But his sound police instinct made him, outside his assigned duties, suspect a vagrant's death. His private investigations led to amazing facts about the deceased vagrant's past, opening doors to many questions about the connection between his wife's drowning in ocean water and his death by drowning in a pool.
