Long-term unemployment is a social and political problem, and combating it is one of the major challenges of the future. Since the resources for combating long-term unemployment are often used in urban areas, regional areas are sometimes neglected. This paper addresses this issue on both a theoretical and empirical level. It focuses in particular on long-term unemployment in the Pinzgau region, where many people affected by long-term unemployment are excluded from support measures due to long waiting lists and insufficient eligibility requirements. The aim is to survey the social infrastructure for long-term unemployed adults in the Pinzgau region, to uncover verifiable abuses and to develop it further in a needs-oriented manner by proposing improvements.
