Book Two in the Local Flavor series. Samantha James wants one thing: fangs. Barnabas "Barney" Greensmith, the town's only vampire, has explained, repeatedly, and with admirable patience, that this isn't on offer, and the last thing he needs is a fifteen-year-old apprentice with more enthusiasm than sense. But after the North American Vampire Council arrives to shut down his "petting zoo" for good, everything changes. Sam, showing a complete absence of judgment, gets involved. She doesn't get bitten. She gets something rather more inconvenient, and considerably harder to undo. Now she's a ghoul, with roughly two weeks of unlife ahead of her before it's gone for good. Barney, against his better instincts, decides that if this is all the vampire life she'll ever get, someone ought to show her what it actually involves. Preferably without further incident.
