A rider, a house, a dog, a key. The Petit Lenormand is just 36 simple pictures, and the hard part is turning them into a sentence that really answers a question. This course teaches you how, step by step, with a three-step method: card, word, sentence. You learn it the way you learn a language: first the vocabulary of the 36 cards, each with its own entry in seven parts; then short sentences; then your first spreads of three and of five cards, worked out in detail, with exercises and criteria for checking your own work. The book also shows what to do when a sentence does not work and how to read with another person while respecting consent. For reference there is a glossary, a table with the names of the cards and an annotated bibliography. The cards come from a Petit Lenormand printed in Bruges around 1900, held by the Bibliothèque nationale de France and in the public domain. Here the cards are a tool for reflection and entertainment: they do not predict the future or replace the advice of a professional.
