Last Days of the Voyage

LAST DAYS OF THE VOYAGE is a World War III novel set in 2048. The war engulfs America and China and a maelstrom of rapidly coalescing and shifting worldwide alliances. The war story intertwines with metaphysical and spiritual themes. The entire story unfolds over 67 momentous days, beginning with Taiwan's sudden declaration of independence, which ignites war between America and China. China wins the opening confrontation, a brief but colossal conflagration throughout the Asia Pacific region. This rapidly escalates into world war, with East Asia coalescing around China and the western world around America. In this frenzied battle for the repositioning of global power-seen by both sides as existential-China and its East Asian allies find common cause with the countries of the Greater Middle East, from Pakistan to Morocco. This shifts the war's epicenter from its flashpoint in the Asia Pacific to the Greater Middle East, and the world hurtles toward the brink of a total world war.Much of the rest of the world-with the notable exception of Russia-coalesces into a spirited front, the Non-Aligned Front, which rallies to end the world war and pull humanity into a new world order that secures peace.Which of these forces is to prevail?Tarek, a main character, makes public-with the help of a prominent television media friend-paranormal spiritual insights, which took shape with him over decades of his life, about the broader context and meaning of this world war, and its possible outcomes. How the thwarting of the war and the triumph of world peace is seen as crucial and pivotal, not only for our world, but for existence at large.THE AUTHOR, OMAR N. ZEIDAN, was born in 1965 in Beirut, Lebanon. He went to university in the U.S. and immigrated to Canada. He worked and lived in several countries, and now lives in Ottawa, Canada. Bearing no relationship to his career, global politics strongly interested him. Transformative spiritual events started happening with him in his late twenties. Over the course of a few decades, his preoccupation with global politics and his spiritual experiences found themselves converging and intertwining into a single common cause, finally making clear-for him-the true purpose of both. This book is about this purpose. The author's spiritual experiences are conveyed in this novel-as faithfully and succinctly as possible-through the character of Tarek.A WORD ABOUT THIS NOVELThis novel is what might be called nonfiction-adjacent. It is serious in both its geopolitical/military and spiritual strands, which converge and intertwine as the story matures. This is not a political/military WW3 thriller. Nor is it of common spirituality. It's a compact novel of 256 pages in the paperback (approximately 61,000 words), written to be an easy read despite the seriousness of the topic.
