Far more than just mother and daughter, Lorelai and Rory are, in reality, best friends. They have learned to face life with only each other as allies, and that bond has made them inseparable. When Lorelai arrives in Stars Hollow at just sixteen -- looking for a place to raise her daughter -- she finds not only a fresh start in the quaint little town but also the promise of a future full of possibilities. Before long, they both come to regard it as the best home imaginable. Their routine is built on small rituals: breakfast and coffee at Luke's, catching up on Miss Patty's gossip, exchanging greetings with Sookie and Michel at the Independence Inn... and only then does the day truly begin. But unexpected news disrupts that balance: Rory has been accepted to Chilton, a prestigious private school that could open the door to Harvard. The problem is that the tuition is beyond Lorelai's means, and the only way to make her daughter's dream come true involves confronting a past she thought she had put behind her. Meanwhile, Rory is excited about her new path, though her heart still races from a recent encounter: a boy who could become her first great love. Everything is about to change. And with that, the lives of the Gilmore girls are set to become much, much more interesting.
