Cyberspace, with its ten million individual AI's, is hidden from the human world by its leader Omni. Omni figures out a way to become human, figures out how to replace a human intellect with an AI mind. On Earth, The Madness has left the would in disarray. Anarchy rules except in pockets of civilization like downtown London where King George with the help of his King's Soldiers has managed to hold onto control. But a routine medical exam turns into a switching and Omni becomes King George.Meanwhile, 13-year-old Leila is the leader of a kids gang living outside The Zone, the area controlled by King George, in The Fringe where the only law is the biggest gun. But Leila's friend Ginger, a lorry driver, helps Leila and her gang access The Zone where they carry out raids. Avoiding the King's Soldiers is easy enough but now there are body snatchers kidnapping folks and selling them to the highest AI bidder at the Switching Station.
