For the first time, Catherine Deneuve talks about herself and her work as an actor. Deneuves' five notebooks tell about the actors' experiences during the shootings of Aprils Fools by Stuart Rosenberg (1970), Tristana by Luis Buñuel (1970), Indochine by Régis Wargnier (1992), Est-Ouest by Régis Wargnier (1999) and Dancer in The Dark by Lars von Trier (2000). In her notebooks, Catherine Deneuve appears as a woman miles away from the image of a star, but as a person who profoundly loves cinema. One realizes that she is a real professional of film making, interested in the evolution of the script and the characters as well as in technical aspects and details of directing. Moreover, these notebooks are wonderful portraits of film-directors.At the end of the book, one can find a long interview the actress has given to director and writer Pascal Bonitzer. Two photo-inlets complete the book: one shows private black and white pictures, which Catherine Deneuve has collected in her family album.
